Nike: “Sustainable Innovation is a Powerful Engine for Growth”

 

Nike last week published its new FY 14/15 Sustainable Business Report: “Sustainable Innovation is a Powerful Engine for Growth.” Highlights:

 

  • Reduced carbon emissions by 18% per unit, while increasing revenue by 52% since FY11.
  • Increased water efficiency by 18% per unit in apparel materials dyeing and finishing since FY11 and 43% per unit in footwear manufacturing since FY11.
  • Diverted 92% of footwear factory waste from landfill or incineration without energy recovery at contract footwear factories in FY15.
  • Sourced 86% of products from contract factories meeting the company’s definition of sustainable in FY15.
  • Committed to a set of FY20 goals to divert 100% of its contracted footwear manufacturing wastefrom the landfill or incineration without energy recovery, source 100% of products from contract factories meeting the company’s definition of sustainable, and achieve a 10% reduction in the average environmental footprint of its products.
  • Pledged to reach 100% renewable energy by the end of FY25.
